Bidvest Top Turf has been involved with the Nedbank golf challenge since the early 90s. This year was no exception as NGC 2016 was once again acclaimed to be a huge success as Africa’s major.
2016 saw the Nedbank golf challenge forming part of the European tour and for the first time in the tournaments history a field of 72 players embarked on the course to play in this prestigious tournament. Playing conditions were ideal; ensuring that spectators were kept on the edge of their seats at all times. The greens were fast, fairways hard and pin placements challenging.
Getting the golf course in prime playing condition did not go down without a hitch, the North West province (as the rest of the country) has been engulfed in a severe drought for the past 3 years. In the lead up to the tournament Sun City received little to no rain and the green keeper had to contend with temperatures on hot days searing well into the 40 degree range. Rough playing services were under extreme stress as these areas on the Gary Player are a 100% dependent on rain water. All green keepers know there is nothing better that rain water.
The Bidvest Top Turf green keeper did an exceptional job under these trying circumstances and has to be commended for the hard work and effort that was put in.
